John G. Ibe (December 18, 1921 – June 13, 2006) was a distinguished American businessman, real estate developer, and decorated World War II veteran. Born in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1943 and served aboard the USS Saint Lo (CVE-63). He notably survived the sinking of his ship during the Battle of Leyte Gulf on October 25, 1944, when it became the first vessel sunk by a Japanese kamikaze attack. Honorably discharged in 1945, Ibe transitioned to a successful career in real estate development.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Ibe was instrumental in veterans’ affairs, particularly in San Diego County. He played a pivotal role in establishing the Miramar National Cemetery, dedicating significant effort to secure its location and funding. As a founding member and chairman of the Fort Rosecrans and Miramar National Cemetery Support Foundation, he contributed to various memorial projects, including the U.S. Aircraft Carrier Memorial and the Taffy 3 monument. His unwavering commitment to honoring fallen servicemen and women left an enduring legacy in the veteran community
